I received the Back to Basics Stainless Steel Stove Popcorn Popper as a Christmas present from my husband. I have been twice and both times used up all appeared on two kernels of popcorn. The popcorn is not hard and it is very spicy, without a lot of butter. The recipe I have as follows: 3 tbsp.
2 tablespoons peanut oil.
Butter 1 / 2 c. Popcorn Popcorn
salt to taste oil in popper over med high heat, then add butter and popcorn. Coat lightly with salt popcorn kernels. Stirring, until popping is almost done and pour into a bowl and enjoy.

This Popper is the one I should have bought in the beginning. I opted for the less expensive deprived of a first, but got the plastic gears in turn between the handle and internal rotation paddle. Heat and plastic are not compatible combination. The Back to Basics version has a Metal Gear, this popper is what’s worth the few dollars extra.

Better than the Whirley Pop. Popper, I chose this for two reasons. 1) A series of reviews I read warned of breaking the plastic gear on the lid. The gearbox is a metal on this. 2) This is stainless steel and not aluminum (as opposed to the Whirley POPs). And yes, this is a concern. There are numerous studies linking aluminum and Alzheimer’s disease and other neuropathic disorders. Remember that many, many popcorn kernels scrape the bottom of the pan, then rub aluminum particles continuously for 3-5 minutes on each use of Popper. What rubs can pursue, but adds up after a while. Even if you do not believe it, or have not done your research, it is really worth the risk? Above all, there is another option available? Go with the Back to Basics Stailess Steel Popper.
Plus, it makes great popcorn. If the other reviews do not believe you have, I hope they will. Many have said that this kind of makes Popper Popcorn that tastes “the same” like popcorn cinema. I would not say, but it is as good if not better than popcorn movie – just a different well. The crisp, fluffy texture of the popcorn is what it is soooo beautiful. I have a hard time stopping. I just keep grinding. and grinding. and grinding. . .
The other thing that makes it so good, is the ability to add oil and salt to taste while cooking. You can also use other spices / flavorings. You can do it exactly the way you like it. With airpoppers you must add the oil and salt or spices after cooking, they do it often defluff the grain or just seem greasy, and the salt does not stick and, especially if you try to go too low in fat. Besides the fact that it is fun and delicious to eat, one of the big draws popcorn, that it (possibly) a healthy snack – when you go low salt and fat. Because you can adjust the amount of “bad stuff” you say that this balance is a good way, Popper to health concerns with a lot of flavor. Normally I just use a tablespoon of oil and a simple 1 / 2 teaspoon salt per 1 / 2 cup of kernels. You can either become less dependent on your concerns. What you will receive, each 1 / 2 cup of kernels (without salt or oil) (approx.): a high-fiber (7g), low in calories (194 kcal), low fat 2. (3g) snacks, which also features a variety of vitamins and minerals to boot. The vast majority of calories (from complex carbohydrates), the good carbs and very few are made of sugar. However, remember that many people eat only half that amount in one sitting.
To some of the negative comments in other reviews address, it is true that the lid is a little difficult to get is on / in place, but it’s not so bad, really. Rather than two seconds pointless sweep of your arm, it is 30 seconds, both hands, and a very little attention to what you’re doing. You clamp the pot in one hand, put the core into a small hole, and snap the holder on the other side with your other hand. Also keep in mind that you really do not clean them (or take the lid off) each time you use it (oil is used again, not that there is much left) in the pan. We use our popper regularly, so it stays on the stove, and I only clean it after about every third use. It could be my imagination, but I think that was not “in-between” batches actually tastier.
To keep the lid closed, I am not the problem with me. It is not airtight – and should not be. For this reason, there are small openings around the lid. The lid is to remain in place, though, so do not worry – the popping corn is not fly out of the pot or anything. My advice is to first check the seller ratings here on the website. Make sure you can return the product and that they have a positive history in dealing with returns. Then, if you check your Popper, before you do to ensure that use everything in order. This is common sense. Chances are, you will not get to a defect in a too. Remember that they sell hundreds of these things. Those who have written the song probably just to name a few unlucky. See how many positive reviews.
Bottom line? This low price makes great popcorn popper, and you can jazz it up to your taste and preferences. You will love it!

I thought this would be a great replacement for our aluminum whirly Popper, that one free of my children when they moved away. Oh, I have unfortunately disappointed. The cover absolutely not stay closed, and, despite the possible adaptation. So one has to learn how to use the “stirrer” with one hand and hold the handle (plus keep the lid closed) with another hand. Plus, it is slowly heated and weighs much more than my old whirly. Finally, I would have different parts of the riveted had a fall and split the wood studs in two parts. All this with a fairly easy to use.
Sun. . . I go back and re-order the good ‘ole aluminum Whirley.

Popper This is a fantastic alternative to the Whirley Pop (which is 100% aluminum) and the ubiquitous VOCs microwave bags. I have a Whirley Pop for the holidays and she immediately went back to basics on this model will, as it is stainless steel and has metal gears instead of cheap plastic kind.
This device is easy to use, and it seems almost all nuclei (Unpopped only 5-10 per batch). The popcorn is fresh and taste are unbeatable. I have 1-2 tbsp oil in the Popper and then add the popcorn and start to move. It is always perfect. Lately, I have something to add 1-2 tablespoons of sugar to corn boilers, and it is just like the real thing that you buy at the show!
What others are saying criticisms of the somewhat ill-fitting lid and the difficulty Replacing it is right for which I take a star from my rating. One side of my lid opened approximately 5 mm remains – not enough for everything to come flying out, luckily. After removing the cover for washing, you need a particular page and a little trickery to get it back on, but rest assured it again. If back to basics might be a better-fitting lid design, popper would get 5 stars.
